There are so many organisations that do not see value in formulating strategies. Your team require direction from your strategies so they can align behind them to ensure objectives can be achieved.

We believe your inventory strategy is the driver of other supply chain strategies. Once you have decided how to ensure stock availability levels in an efficient manner, sourcing, procurement, planning and other strategies can be aligned to ensure the achievement of targets inventory holdings are achieved.

It goes without saying that all supply chain strategies need to be cascaded down through the different areas of the supply chain to achieve carefully aligned objectives. Your SIOP function is a great support tool to ensure different areas of your supply chain don’t move off in a direction contrary to the agreed plan. 

One other point that is surprisingly common which must be avoided is not sharing your strategies with all personnel within the business!
